Proving experience is essential when looking for employment, a student is celebrating landing a job at a pet store after an engaging work experience placement.
Animal Health and Management students at Duchy College had a busy time out on industry placements, all of whom found the experience invaluable.
Yasmine Green from Plymouth was singled out for exceptional praise by her placement provider, who asked her to apply for an upcoming vacancy with the company.
She applied and is now working for Redpaws pet shop based in Plympton.
The shop offers a wide range of services and is a supplier of natural pet foods, onsite pet grooming salon, micro-chipping, bespoke handmade dog leads, canine advice and socialisation classes as well as 100s of toys and an array of treats.
During her placement Yasmin showed her capability and commitment where she had the opportunity to attend PATS trade show the UK’s No.1 pet trade event, which showcases thousands of products and over 300 brands and companies at Sandown racecourse.
She also spent time in the grooming salon, worked with clients, attended their establishments and had hands-on experience with alternative animals such as donkeys and alpacas.
Redpaws proprietor, Sammie Hunt said she was “very proud of Yasmine”.
“She has really excelled during her time with us and I was extremely pleased when she applied for the position with us,” she added.
HE Programme Manager, Michelle Chappell, said she was delighted for Yasmin.
“The programme has been explicitly designed to ensure graduates are employment ready for the animal health industry,” she explained.
“I am pleased that this has been recognised through Yasmin’s hard work and commitment.”
