Construction work initially began on Agratas’ multi-billion-pound battery manufacturing facility in 2024 and, when complete, it will be the biggest of its kind in the UK. It is set to play a crucial role in advancing clean technology and sustainable energy, producing battery cells for automotive and energy storage solutions.

When fully operational, the overall facility is set to create around 4,600 direct jobs and is expected to generate around £43 billion in economic growth over a 25-year period.
At the site in Bridgwater, Somerset, construction activity continues to advance – with significant progress being made on key structures within the first stage of development.
Cladding installation is progressing at pace on Building One, the first phase of the project, forming the external shell of the structure and marking an important stage in its construction. As the building’s outer protective layer, cladding helps shield the structure from the elements while improving insulation, weather resistance and overall building performance.
Works are also underway on the central utilities building, with cladding now being installed following the completion of the steel framework. Once operational, the building will house critical infrastructure – such as data and power supply – supporting the wider facility.
In parallel, specialist drainage systems are being installed to support the site’s long-term water management strategy, ensuring the effective collection and re-routing of roof water through the development’s drainage network.
As part of the business’ commitment to responsible resource management, Agratas is also reusing materials generated during construction. Rock excavated during groundworks is being crushed and stockpiled for use elsewhere across the site, reducing waste and limiting the need for imported materials.

Alongside this, recruitment is now underway for a range of roles to support battery cell production at Building One. Opportunities will be available across operations, maintenance, quality, technical, engineering and logistics, as the company continues to build the team that will support future manufacturing operations.
