People in Cornwall wanting to become an apprentice with the county’s top employers are being urged to attend an Apprenticeship Recruitment Event.

The Cornwall College Group (TCCG) and CCB Training will be hosting its fifth annual apprenticeship recruitment events this spring.

Taking place on Wednesday 1st May across St Austell and Camborne campuses, the event will run from 5pm to 7.00pm.

Employers attending this year event include:  Fugro GeoServices, Rigibore, Corserv, Damian Mutton Builder, Pendennis Shipyard, King’s Service Centre, A&P Falmouth, Whyfield, Kernow Health, Landal Gwel an Mor, Imerys, Ocean Housing Group, Persimmon Homes, Midas Construction, Page1 (Europe) Ltd, Cockwells  and many more.

Vacancies on offer cover engineering, horticulture, carpentry, electrical, trowel, marine, food & beverage, web media, business admin, customer service and many more.

Last year’s events saw 200 young people meet with prospective apprenticeship employers, and discover opportunities available to them through local businesses. In addition to local employers, this year supporting organisations including: Volunteer Cornwall, the Royal Air Force Careers Centres, the Army Career Centres, the National Citizen Service (NCS), Duchy College, Falmouth Marine School and the Industry Placement and Work Experience team will be attending various campuses.

Gareth Kenward, Head of Business Engagement at The Cornwall College Group, said “we are the largest provider of apprenticeships in the South West”.

“We work with thousands of businesses and individuals across the region every year,” he continued.

“Our experienced apprenticeship recruitment team work hard to match individuals with inspiring employers. An apprenticeship enables young people and adult learners to earn while learning on the job, gain a real qualification and a real future. Whether it’s your job or your next step, being an apprentice means being fully employed with all the usual staff benefits, plus studying with industry experts who offer great support”.

Laura Whyte, Director at Whyfield said: “The apprentices in our business have far surpassed our expectations in their approach and attitude to work. They embrace the professionalism of the working environment together with the challenges of studying for their qualifications, all with a smile on their faces.”

As well as being able to meet with employers who are looking to recruit apprentices, the event will enable students to speak to current apprentices and college tutors, apply for apprenticeship vacancies and get help with CV writing and interview tips.
