Lovers of the creative arts are being invited to attend a showcase of the very best of the next generation of Cornish creative talent.
The annual end of year show for Art, Design and Photography at Cornwall College St Austell will include a variety of student’s final creative pieces.
The range of artwork and installations has been produced by students studying A-level, Vocational Diplomas, Access and part-time courses in a wide range of disciplines. Examples of the impressive artwork on display will include fine art, graphic design, illustration, photography, textiles and media.
Lewis Pitt, who is studying for a Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media, created ceramic sculptures of people from different types of clay, which represents the “diversity of humans and the connection with the earth.”
“The sculptures encompass illness that we don’t talk about such as anxiety and depression; to do this I’ve been crystalizing them with copper sulphate,” he continued.
“The copper sulphate grows in a parasitic manner that spreads throughout the sculpture this symbolises that mental illness can feel like a parasite which impacts on a person’s life.”
Art A-level student, Krystal James’ work is on European romanticism, specifically around poets and their poetry.
“I painted each piece influenced by the poets of the time that I thought were the most prominent,” she said.
“I will also have a narrative running alongside my work on display.”
Curriculum Lead for Visual Arts across The Cornwall College Group, Zona Maunder, said the summer show “is a fantastic showcase” for all students across multiple creative departments.
“It’s a celebration of all they have accomplished throughout their time at the College and as always we have some exceptionally talented students,” she continued.
“We welcome the public to come along and see the impressive standard of work for themselves.”
The exhibition will be open to the public from Monday 17th June to Wednesday 20th June, from 10am-4pm in the The Art Block, Cornwall College St Austell, John Keay House, Tregonissey Rd, St Austell PL25 4DJ.
