For many of our 16-18 year-olds at South Devon College, today marks a great cause for celebration as this year’s A Level students received exceptional grades. Collectively, our hard-working students boasted a fantastic 99% overall pass rate with around half of all students claiming upper tier A*-B grades.
We’re delighted with the numerous success stories across the college as over 70 students from all over Devon have excelled in a wide variety of study areas, with the majority earning high A*- C grades across over 20 subjects including key core STEM courses and additional areas of study including Computer Science, Psychology, Politics and Film Studies.
Our students can now look forward to beginning the exciting next chapter of their academic or professional careers, with today’s results helping them to progress along their path to success to university destinations across the country, and at University Centre South Devon.
Tara Gunasekara (19, from Paignton) claimed exceptional results gaining A*, A, A in A Level Sociology, Politics and History Studies. Tara is hoping to further pursue Politics at university but not before an exciting gap year travelling. Tara said “I chose to study at South Devon College for the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. During my time here the teachers have been amazing, I found the classes to be really stimulating”.
Ethan-Jay Bishop (18, from Torquay) gained fantastic results claiming A, A, A, B in A Level Core Mathematics, Media, Film and Business Studies. Ethan’s ambition is to one day become a digital designer and is planning on studying Digital Media at the University of Leeds. When asked about his time spent at the College, Ethan said, “The College was a great experience for me, it’s allowed me to gain more independence, freedom, make friends and really help my studies”.
Savannah Tangye (19, from Torquay) claimed brilliant results gaining A*, A, B in A Level Business, Politics and Chemistry. Savannah said, “I initially chose to study at South Devon College as they offered all the courses I was interested in. I found the
teachers to be very supportive and they’ve helped me a lot during my time here’. Savannah now plans to head to University and embark on her exciting next chapter .
William Holman (18, from Dartmouth) achieved fantastic results gaining A, A, A in A Level Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. William is going to study further Mathematics at the University of Exeter and explained how the tutors at South Devon College helped make the difference. William said, “Right from the start the tutors were friendly and informal, working in small groups meant I’d receive all the help I needed”.
Tula Claxton-Miller (18, from Paignton) achieved very impressive results gaining A, A, B in A Level History, Sociology and Government Studies. Tula plans to head to university, however might take an exciting gap year first. Tula said, “I found the teachers at South Devon College to be very friendly and helpful in my studies, whilst the working environment was very relaxed which I loved”.
Luke Viner (18, from Paignton) claimed brilliant results gaining A, B, B in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as a B in AS English. At age 14 Luke joined South Devon High School, based at the College. He has since excelled in his own progression and now plans to study Biomedical Science at the University of Warwick. Luke said, “Because I studied at the High School, I was very familiar with the comfortable environment the College provides and found the tutors to be really supportive”.
Sacha Gonsalves (18, from Torquay) achieved fantastic results gaining A, A, B in A Level Geography, Sociology and Psychology. Sacha is thrilled with her results and plans to read Psychology. When asked why choose South Devon College, Sacha said, “I really enjoyed the modern learning environment at the College, it’s a very social place and the staff are easy to contact for any help”.
Principal of South Devon College, Stephen Criddle OBE said, “Congratulations to our successful A Level students, the results achieved today are a testament to all of their hard work and dedication leading up to this key stage. The results really underpin a great next step progression, with even more students earning the necessary grades for their first choices in continued study at University Centres locally or further afield in higher education or taking up apprenticeship opportunities or other career routes. We are delighted for them and wish everyone the best of luck with their chosen pathway.”
