More than 175 primary school pupils turned out at Duchy College Stoke Climsland to compete in the second race of this year’s Duchy College Sport Cross-Country League.
Pupils from years Three, Four, Five and Six took part in one- and two-mile courses, representing Altarnun, Coads Green, Delaware, Launceston, St Joseph’s, South Petherwin, St Cleer, Stoke Climsland, Tregadillett and Trekenner.
The top three runners in each age group were awarded individual medals as well as collecting points for the overall School Cross Country League trophy, which is sponsored by Launceston Sports.
The individual winners for this race were Year 5/6 Girls – Charlotte Doney from Stoke Climsland School and Year 5/6 Boys was Harrison Shaw from Tregadillett School. The Year 3 /4 races were won for the girls by Talula Stacey from St Cleer School and for the boys by Thomas Teagle from Tregadillett School.
Talula, said the race was “great fun and I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next race”.
Team Lead for Sports at Duchy College, Neil Harris, said the cross country league “is an amazing opportunity” for local primary school students to come together and race competitively.
“I was impressed with the children’s motivation to compete in quite challenging conditions,” he continued.
“Our Level 3 Sport students, along with Military and Protective Services Academy students at Duchy also gained some valuable hands on experience in setting up and helping to run this event.”
