City College Plymouth is playing a leading role in two new peer support networks that are inviting health science and low carbon businesses and organisations to join.
As part of Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, these new working groups are for companies and researchers in Plymouth, Devon and Somerset who will come together to support one another. The aim of the two groups is to develop sector resilience by addressing common themes and developing the next generation of leaders equipped to tackle the challenges that both sectors face.
The two groups are open to any medical and health science, or low carbon industry organisations carrying out research, developing products or providing services that will have a positive impact on the future of these sectors in our local economy.
Peer Network Facilitator, Ian Poyser, said: “We are encouraging a variety of organisations and projects to become a part of these new working groups that will support one another. Examples of the work we are looking to see involved with this project include – but are not limited to – overcoming drug-resistant bacteria, the development of hypoallergenic foods and products, energy and transport management.
“The Peer Networks will work through specific challenges or problems as a group using the Acton Learning Principles. This allows peers to share knowledge and experience, develop solutions, put them into practice and report back on the outcomes. The aim is to make the sectors more resilient to potential challenges that lay ahead.
“The College wants to be actively involved with the growth of the health science and low carbon sectors here in the South West, as not only will developing these sectors lead to exciting employment opportunities, they have the power to improve people’s lives through better health care and greener communities.”
The College recently launched its new Vision and Purpose, setting out its ambitions to improve the lives and prospects of people in Plymouth and the surrounding areas. It has developed a number of strategic actions that act as a blueprint for how the College intends to transform futures. These actions set out clear plans for health and wellbeing, curriculum, and its estates, and are all underpinned by strong partnerships. Through these actions, the College hopes to contribute to creating a healthier, happier and more sustainable city.
The groups will meet face to face and online between September and March as the UK economy continues to emerge from a long period of COVID-19 restrictions.
