Learners are being inspired to join the Travel & Tourism industry after seeing the achievements of one of the former students at their college.
Former Level 3 Extended Diploma Travel & Tourism student at Cornwall College St Austell, Elisha Morshead, spoke to learners about her experience of working for TUI as a Resort Representative since completing her course.
Elisha, who is 20 years old and attended Penrice Academy before joining Cornwall College St Austell, said the course was “fantastic and it really made it clear to me this is the industry I wanted to work in”.
“The course is really varied and I feel it enhanced so many of my skills including teamwork and communication along with really improving my confidence,” she continued.
“When I saw the job for Resort Representative advertised for TUI I just knew it was something I wanted to go for.
Elisha, who has just completed her first three-month contract in Menorca said she was “buzzing” when she landed her job.
“My role included holding a welcome morning for guests every morning, explaining about the different excursions available and sorting out any problems they experienced whilst on holiday,” she said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it and I have already got my contract for next year where I will be going back to Menorca for six months from April.”
She is also on the reserve list if a winter season contract becomes available and will go travelling to India and Thailand at the beginning of next year for a couple of months if not.
“One of my future goals is to work on a cruise ship, it’s just great being part of this industry,” she said.
“I would really recommend the Travel and Tourism course at Cornwall College St Austell to other students. It gives you a strong insight into industry and a good idea about the type of roles that are available. The tutors are so knowledgeable and the support I received from them was fantastic.”
Travel and Tourism Lecturer at Cornwall College St Austell, Michelle Dudley, said “Elisha was always a promising learner. She has a good work ethic and is dynamic and enthusiastic.”
“These qualities are well suited to the role of a resort representative. During her time at Cornwall College St Austell studying overseas resort representatives, Elisha decided that this was the job role she wanted to pursue. We were delighted when Elisha secured a position with TUI as a resort representative.
“It was fantastic for our current students to meet Elisha and to hear how successful you can be if you put the hard work in. We take great pleasure in watching Elisha progress within the industry and are sure she has a bright future ahead of her.”
