A special event focused on raising investment will take place at Exeter Science Park next month.
The Science Park has organised the free ‘Meet the Funder’ informal session, in partnership with the British Business Bank, from 10am until 12.30pm on Thursday, February 22.
This event is designed to guide business owners through the mind of an investor, explore their thinking when looking at opportunities and question their approach or thoughts on their own business proposition. It is the first of a number of events which the Science Park is planning in partnership with the British Business Bank.
Jason Buck, senior business development manager at Exeter Science Park, said: “At a time when raising investment is difficult and cash is vital, it is more important than ever to fully understand the approach taken by investors when considering an investment opportunity.
“This is just one of a number of events and opportunities that we are planning in 2024 for our Science Park community, although it is also open to businesses who are not based here.”
Two local angel investors who will attend the event are Nick Sprague, who having recently exited his business supplying processed fruit products to food and soft/alcoholic drink manufacturers in the UK and mainland Europe, has gone on to invest in multiple businesses across the region, and Dave Gough who exited his business in 2017 when he sold to Mayborn having made and sold baby sleeping bags and grow bags. Both Nick and Dave are members of MAINstream, a south west angel network which was established by Michelmores in 2019 to help accelerate the growth of angel investing.
In addition to an open Q&A session, there will be an opportunity for 1-2-1 conversations with the investors for selected attendees after lunch. The event is designed for businesses at different stages of their growth, including:
· those who are exploring or considering raising angel or equity investment
· those exploring alternative sources to funding their existing business opportunities
· founders who are seeking, raising, or interested in raising angel investment and want their questions answered
· SMEs who want to learn more about alternative financing opportunities.
Edward Tellwright, senior manager UK network south west at the British Business Bank, said: “This event is open to businesses from all sectors and is for anyone who is interested in finding out more about angel investors; it could be anyone, from people who have just started their business and think equity is right for them, to more established companies, who might be looking for their next equity round, or simply people who want to find out more about angel investment.”
Lunch will be included, and attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a tour of Exeter Science Park.
