All the hard work has paid off for a Cornish college as it has come away with not one, but three gold medals at the region’s county shows, alongside a very royal visit.
At the Royal Cornwall Show (RCS), the Duchy College team was thrilled to land gold in the Best Large Agricultural Trade Stand category for their trade stand.
Activities that helped secure the victory included the opportunity to ride a virtual reality horse around a jumping course, paint some pebbles with the Early Years team, meet some of the creepy crawlies from the Animal Management Centre, try their hand at metal detecting with the Military Academy, test the power of their kick with the sport team and climb on the JCB’s under the watchful eye of the construction plant team.
The floristry students and staff were busy creating their themed ‘Geometric’ display in the floristry tent.
All the time and effort paid off after they were awarded a Large Gold. They also were delighted to welcome HRH Duchess of Cornwall to the award winning stand, and presented her with a bouquet of flowers that they created themselves.
PAFC Sport student, Adam Patterson, said it was “a great experience working on the stand and interacting with the public”.
“Lots of people of different ages enjoyed all the activities we had to offer. We were all really pleased when we were presented with the first prize,” he added.
The College also won gold for its trade stand at Devon County Show in May. This was the second year in succession.
Principal of Duchy College, Phil Le Grice, said he was “thrilled with all the awards that we have won at the county shows”.
“The team have worked extremely hard and we have been made very welcome everywhere that we have been,” he continued.
“It’s a thrill for us that we not only get to showcase the incredible opportunities for learners at Duchy College, but that we also get acknowledgment from the experts that we know how to put on an engaging and interesting exhibition for visitors.”
