Celebrations continued for St Austell’s centenarian Josie Brennan at the KoKo training salons at St Austell Campus with a lovely new hairdo and a specially made cake.
Josie Brennan who recently turned 100 has been having her hair done by trainee hairdressers at St Austell College for over 50 years.
At least four of the current teaching staff at the college remember doing Mrs Brennan’s hair through the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s when they did their own training through what was then Mid-Cornwall College.
Lecturer Tanya Vinton who organised the surprise along with the students and her colleagues said it was a real honour to help Ms Brennan celebrate.
“Mrs Brennan has been a valued customer of ours for many years and we wanted to celebrate her special birthday and continue with her celebrations,” she added.
Banners and balloons decorated the salon and a handmade cake by trainee chef Katie Ellacott was presented to her.
Josie insisted that everyone in the salon had a piece stating that she had “more than enough cake lately”.
Head of Campus Chris Taylor said how wonderful Mrs Brennan is for supporting the College and the students.
“She has a cracking sense of humour, I was hoping to enrol her on a college course since we’ve never had a centenarian on a course before – I think she would have more to teach the students than we could teach her!”
While waiting for her granddaughter to pick her up, Josie talked to the staff and students about receiving her telegram from the Queen and enjoyed nibbling the icing off her cake, which, she states is the best bit. Until recently she has walked up the hill to John Keay House for her appointments and then would get a taxi back so not to ruin her hair!
