City College Plymouth’s Lance Chatfield, Academy Manager for Higher Technology Skills, will be hosting a virtual session as part of a series of webinars that showcase how the city is leading the way in marine technology.
Organised by the team at the Oceansgate Marine Technology Enterprise Zone in partnership with Maritime UK South West, Lance’s session will focus on the major role the College plays in providing the necessary skills and training to much of the local workforce within this vital industry.
On Wednesday 15 July, Lance will be presenting the College’s brand-new strategic action and what it means for the future of marine skills training. The session will also include a section on the higher education opportunities in marine autonomy available at the College, focusing on progression from Foundation Degree to postgraduate level. He will also be talking about the ever-expanding opportunities offered through higher-level Apprenticeships, and how these can support employers in the region.
Lance said: “These sessions are a brilliant way to show the world how serious Plymouth is about being a world-leader in the marine industry and the world-class technology it has to offer.
“The College plays a crucial role in the training of new and current marine sector employees, and it has spent a long time developing its courses to ensure we are supporting employers with the skills they need both now and in the future.”
In September, City College will begin the delivery of its new Foundation Degree in Marine Autonomous Vehicles in addition to supporting a large number of other higher education students in engineering subjects. The College has vast experience in supporting students who fit their studies alongside full-time employment, helping them gain crucial skills and qualification to further their careers.
The webinar will start at 11.00am and will last approximately 45 minutes. All of the webinars within the series are free to attend, but participants are asked to register via the website Eventbrite.
