Twenty years to the month since it was founded, the South West Business Council has been consolidating its progress and is seeking a new chief executive. The organisation, which has been ably served by Dr Robin Daniels in his capacity as interim chief executive, has been recruiting new board members and reviewing its structure to face the new challenges post Brexit and post pandemic.
The Council represents key organisations from across the South West having grown from its beginnings looking after Devon and Cornwall businesses.
Chairman Tim Jones said: “Our continued presence is testament to the fact that the business voice of the region needs to be heard loud and clear. Over the years we’ve been working, we’ve assisted our members, both large and small, supporting their growth, delivering innovation and avoiding the pitfalls that have forced others to close.
“We’ve been a helping hand behind many of the region’s successes, like Appledore Ship Yard, Barden Corporation and British Ceramic Tiles, as well as supporting companies through expansion, mergers, acquisitions, relocations. Collaboration has been key: we have a long history of working with our partners in local authorities and other agencies to bring new commerce and investment to the area.
“Robin has been an exceptional source of inspiration, advice and insight for our organisation, but as is often the case, this was only ever an interim position. With his help, we want to recruit a new chief executive, who can navigate the organisation successfully through the forthcoming times, helping to deliver on our strategic plan.
“Partnership has also been a watch word for SWBC, and we are keen to build on our achievements, bringing together public and private sector, identifying opportunities for enterprise and sharing best practice. Our events programme is second to none, with internationally renowned speakers, experts and professionals in their field giving their perspective to our members. Even though we’ve had to move online, the benefits to the membership has continued, with some exceptional sessions of recent and networking. We’ve had panels with the Bank of England Governor, Queen Diambi Kabatsuila and a host of national and international speakers, giving insights into the current market status; we want to continue to attract the best and brightest names in business.”
