Young guitarists are invited to jam their way into a workshop which will see them discover new techniques and perform in a showcase concert.
The workshop sessions are aimed at 10- to 25-year-olds, but don’t fret mature guitarists are welcome to join as are disabled guitarists.
The programme, which culminates with a concert at the Keay Theatre in St Austell organised by the Scratch Electric Kernow project, is not for beginners. Guitarists should be of intermediate to advanced level and be committed to the full programme.
Cornwall College Lecturer and Workshop Leader Matthew Arundell said what a “fantastic opportunity” this is for electric guitarists.
“It is so great to be able to get together a group of musicians and create some amazing music, which will culminate in a great showcase at the Keay Theatre on the 22nd November,” he continued.
“Cornwall College St Austell Music Department is especially is proud to have been chosen to represent Mid-Cornwall for this project.”
The workshop sessions, delivered by Matthew, will focus on improving musical skills, creating music inspired by Jimi Hendrix and learning specially commissioned pieces by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and London composer Adrian Lee.
Cornwall College St Austell Music Student, Ben Shadden said; “I’m extremely excited to join in with this workshop. I feel as though I’ll be contributing to something great and am very enthusiastic to learn whatever they have to teach me.”
There are four key dates for this programme, 1st November for the introductory session, two workshops on the 8th and 15th of November and then a rehearsal and final showcase on the 22nd November.
