The Longstore takes over training kitchens

By | |

Patrons of Cloisters Restaurant at Cornwall College St Austell enjoyed a three course dinner with Charlestown’s renowned Restaurant ‘The Longstore’ at the helm.

Former Student and now Head Chef of Longstore Restaurant, Ben Ambrigeback, was in the award-winning Cloisters kitchen, cooking alongside trainee chefs.

Longstore owner and manager, Mel Marquis, managed the front of house service alongside hospitality students and Cloisters Restaurant Manager Matt Bird.

Mel said it was a “brilliant opportunity and an amazing evening”.

“We spaced out the bookings so we could train up the students through the evening to the Longstore way; we actually employ a couple of Cornwall College students already and they should all be really proud of themselves with the way the food service ran so smoothly,” she explained.

Some of the trainee chefs after the service talked to the customers at their tables to see what response they had from the menu; which was all very positive!

Team Lead Steve Rudd said how much the team at the College has admired the success the Longstore has achieved in Charlestown.

“We’ve placed many students there on part time positions to supplement their learning and development,” he continued.

“They supported us at the start of the year with our hugely successful Industry Week at St Austell Campus – this gave way to the idea of a second Longstore pop-up dining experience.”

“It was amazing to see their staff working alongside our students here in our award winning restaurant and kitchens – we hope to hold many more evenings like this.”

Keep an eye on the Cloisters Facebook page for more ‘pop up’ style dining experiences coming up this year.
