Students decorate tree for Stephen’s Story

By | |

Multi-Ops Health and Social Care class have decorated a Christmas tree in yellow at Carclaze Methodist Church to raise awareness for the charity the Teenage Cancer Trust.

They were inspired by Stephen’s Story and his fundraising efforts for Teenage Cancer Trust while they were learning about physical, emotional and social health needs as part of their course.

Stephen Sutton battled cancer for five years before he sadly passed away in 2014, but his story still continues because of the fundraising legacy Stephen left behind.

The students had been following Stephen’s Story on Facebook and his mum had put a request for schools to decorate a tree in a local cathedral which is in Lichfield. Due to being so far away to participate they decided to take part and do it in their local church.

Lecturer, Louise Turner said; “every year we bring a group of Foundation Learning Students up to the church to help decorate some Christmas trees, we thought this would be a great way to raise awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust and still be a part of Stephen’s Story.”

Student Hayley White said; “We had found Stephen’s Story online and that he had cancer and that his favourite colour was yellow, so we worked hard to make these handmade decorations at college for the yellow inspired tree”

Steven’s mum posted on Facebook;  “We have created two ‘Text to Donate’ numbers so if anyone would like to place a decoration on their own Christmas tree and at the same time make a small donation during Advent and the Twelve Days of Christmas – coinciding with the Christmas Tree Festival in Lichfield Cathedral“
