South West Business Council seeks new Chair

The South West is an exciting and dynamic region that has successfully attracted ambitious businesses and individuals from across the UK and beyond. At SWBC, we have been working hard to support these businesses and promote economic growth for over 20 years.

Our aim is to act in the best interests of our members, providing a voice for businesses across the South West, representing their interests inside and outside the region, and forging opportunities for collaboration, innovation and prosperity. We actively support major developments that have strategic importance to the region, lobby for inward investment.

No matter the size or sector of our members, we seek to understand their priorities and work closely with them to help them achieve their goals by mobilising our networks, sharing intelligence and creating opportunities and partnerships.

The company is led by a non-executive board of directors who bring their experience and skills to provide invaluable support to the CEO in achieving the aims of the company. The current directors can be viewed her: Meet The Team – South West Business Council

Key Chair responsibilities

  1. Provide leadership and direction to the board in order to fulfil their responsibilities for the governance and strategic direction of SWBC, in line with its CIC status.
  2. Represent SWBC at key stakeholder events and, help secure new members.
  3. Lead the Board in maintaining key strategic regional relationships.
  4. Support the recruitment, retention and development of board members.

Key requirements

  1. Prior experience in organisational leadership
  2. Prior board experience and a clear understanding of board responsibilities
  3. Preferably have a track record of working with key individuals and organisations within the South West of England
  4. Ideally have worked for/with both the private and public sector
  5. A background of strategic networking.
