Devon employers interested in seeing their young Apprentices aged 16 or 17, build confidence, make new friends and develop important life skills are encouraged to get their teams to sign up for the National Citizen Service (NCS) autumn 2018 programme before it’s too late. Spots are quickly filling, our usual approach is to visit sixth forms and colleges with these opportunities but we don’t want Apprentices to miss out!

Set to start on 20th October 2018 the autumn programme will include an outdoor activity residential to South Cerney Lakes, followed by a range of enterprise and employability workshops delivered locally and a social action project enabling teens to give back to their communities by volunteering, raising awareness and fundraising for causes that matter to them.
The programme costs the average participant just £50 (the Government supplements £1500 for each individual), which covers all meals, accommodation and activities. Bursaries are also available on a case by case basis. We are currently offering an autumn promotion, quote AUT18 and sign up for just £35.
As employers of young people, the NCS experience can help you gain a confident and invaluable staff member. Spending some time away from home meeting new people, experiencing new challenges and, most importantly, building confidence and skills like teamwork, communication and leadership really will benefit your employee and your organisation .

NCS is a flagship government initiative that provides young people aged 16-17 the chance to take on new challenges, experience exciting activities, make long-lasting friendships and develop vital skills that will support them later in life. It was launched to tackle three core issues of importance to society: social cohesion, social mobility and social engagement.
A bit more about NCS
NCS is a government backed programme established in 2011 to help build a more cohesive, mobile and engaged society. By bringing together young people from different backgrounds for a unique shared experience, NCS helps them to become better individuals, and in turn better citizens.
NCS is open to 16 and 17 year-olds across England and Northern Ireland. The two to four week programme, which takes place in school holidays, includes outdoor team-building exercises, a residential for participants to learn ‘life skills’, a community-based social action project and an end of programme celebration event.
To date:
- 500,000 young people have completed the NCS programme to date
- Twelve million hours have been attributed to social action projects since NCS started.
- For every £1 spent, NCS’ 2016 summer programme delivered between £1.15 and £2.42 of benefits back to society
It costs participants just £50 or less to take part in NCS and bursaries are available on a case by case basis. Support is provided for young people with additional needs.
