A trip to the Auto Sport International Racing Car Show has fuelled Cornish learners’ passions for careers in the motor vehicle industry many weren’t even aware of.
Motor vehicle students from Cornwall College St Austell attended the annual pre-season event, held at the NEC Birmingham, which covers all areas of motorsport, both professional and grass roots, from karting right up to Formula 1.
Learners Blake Whall and Daniel Williams both agreed that the long journey up to the arena was worth it.
“I really enjoyed this event, it was great to see so many exhibitors in the industry,” Blake explained.
Daniel said it was great seeing and learning about the new technology, which is being used in industry.
“It gave us some ideas of future possible for after we finish our course,” he added.
The event featured the very latest in motorsport, automotive and performance-engineering technology, alongside cars and exhibitors from every level of motor racing the event was full of car enthusiasts keen to see the fastest cars, biggest stars and live action.
Motor Vehicle Lecturer at Cornwall College St Austell, Alex Berry, organised the trip and explained that the aim was to “enrich the learning experience” and to show various routes they could go into with their qualifications after completing their course.
“We took over 30 students to the show and they enjoyed lots of interactive stands, seminars, equipment on display and product demos with celebrities indorsing certain products,” he said.
“The NEC is the largest car exhibition in Europe. We like to get them out of the college environment to inspire the students about what career options are out there. It also gives them the opportunity to discover other parts of the country and see how large arenas like the NEC operate.”
There is a Course & Careers Advice Event on Saturday 14th March at Cornwall College St Austell from 10am until Midday for potential students to come and look around the facilities and meet the lecturers.
