Against a backdrop of the roadmap to Net Zero, climate change mitigation and security of energy supply what are the challenges in accelerating energy transition and what opportunities does that create for the South West economy?

We’re pleased to announce that Wales & West Utilities will be co-sponsoring the South West Business Council’s Energy Transition Quarterly conference.

Wales and West Utilities is a regulated gas distribution business with around 35,000 kilometres of gas pipes across Wales and the South West of England. Their network supplies gas to around 7.5 million customers. At WWU, they’re working towards a more sustainable future. They have set themselves some ambitious targets to deliver affordable, safe and greener energy for all customers. This includes continuing to invest in their network, investigating alternative sources of gas like biomethane and hydrogen, and focusing on carbon neutral to help the UK meet its net-zero targets.

At our last conference, we majored on Natural Capital with key speakers such as the Chair of Natural England, Tony Juniper, Lord Teverson, Ian Bateman Professor of Environmental Economics at Exeter University and Caroline Price from the Crown Estate.

Given the effect of the Ukraine war on global energy prices, the significant impact this is having on consumer and business cost and the need to de-carbonise our energy supply whilst ensuring security of energy supply, we have decided to focus on these challenges at this conference.

We are pleased to confirm Jane CooperEric Adams and Peter Crone as three of our key speakers, with more speakers to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Our host and facilitator for the day will be Liz Waugh, MD at Coast Communications.
