“People, planet and profit – what’s the real deal ?” by Erinch Sahan, Chief Executive of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO)*

Increasingly, societies are asking deep questions about the purpose of business. Meanwhile, a growing chorus of businesses claims to work for people, planet and profit. But how do we know who is authentic? With a global network of businesses spanning 76 countries that has tried to embody these principles for over 30 years, Erinch will present his insights from the WFTO, drawing from a diverse range of examples including worker, farmer and community ownership, to models of governance and profit distribution that aim to put people and planet before profit. These businesses may be proof of concept that businesses can put people and planet first.

*The WFTO is the global community of social enterprises that practice Fair Trade. Prior to the WFTO, Erinch spent 7 years at Oxfam leading campaign and advocacy teams, and founding Oxfam’s Future of Business Initiative.
