New waste disposal service for accredited compostable products
Earth Friendly Foodware today announces the launching of Return to Energy, a new postal collection service that processes used compostable food and drink packaging products into energy. Any UK customers will be able to return their used compostable cups, plates and cutlery in the boxes they arrived in for a fixed charge. Collected products will be processed and converted to gas energy on the national grid.
The service works by repacking used compostable products into the box they arrived in, applying a postal label and making the box available for collection on a pre-agreed date and time. Customers may purchase labels from the Earth Friendly Foodware web site. To ensure regulation compliancy, the service will only be available for Vincotte accredited products supplied by Earth Friendly Foodware. Collected products will be sent to a new state of the art processing plant operated by Severn Trent where it will be processed to produce biomethane, treated and injected into the gas supply network.
The service is ideally suited for event organisers, especially school fetes and sporting events, who want a transparent disposal route that is an alternative to landfill.
“Return to Energy offers a better outcome for compostable packaging waste,” stated Andrew Cross, Founder, Earth Friendly Foodware. “Where a small amount of compostable packaging is used at a school fete or local sporting event, the option for disposal is nearly always general waste. With the ban on compostables entering green waste streams now lifted, new opportunities exist. But for those situations where a small amount of, maybe, one-off waste needs disposing, the options are as limited as ever.”
