A local student is celebrating after becoming qualified to teach children how to swim.
Children, Schools and Families student at Cornwall College Saltash, Shannon Bowden, achieved STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming.
Shannon, who is currently studying Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Workforce, said she is “extremely proud” of what she has achieved.
“I had a portfolio of work to complete and my final exam was teaching a children’s swimming lesson,” she explained.
“My lessons and final exam took place at Looe Bay Holiday Park and I will be holding swimming lessons there during the summer holidays. I am thoroughly enjoying my time on the course here at Cornwall College Saltash and from September I will be progressing onto the FdA Early Childhood Studies at Cornwall College St Austell.”
Team Lead for Children, Schools and Families, Laetitia Mayne, said it is “fantastic to see Shannon earn this qualification”.
“It is great that we are able to support students in gaining valuable transferring skills that can not only be used alongside her Early Years Educator qualifications, but also will enhance her future employment opportunities,” she added.
From September, Cornwall College St Austell will offer Children, Schools and Families courses for 16 to 18-year-old learners and adults across a range of levels, including degree-level and apprenticeships.
There is a Course & Careers Advice Event at Cornwall College St Austell on Saturday 14th March, 10am until Midday, for potential students to look around the facilities and meet the lecturers.
