City College Plymouth has been re-accredited to the matrix Standard, which recognises high-quality, independent information, advice and guidance provided by a range of organisations.
Designed to help organisations improve their services, the matrix Standard is a framework of best practice for providers that offer information, advice and guidance about careers, education and life goals. If providers meet all of the criteria, they can display the internationally recognised matrix quality mark.
In order to receive the renewed accreditation, the College underwent a rigorous assessment process that not only looks at the quality of the advice and guidance provided to students, but also takes into account the results achieved by the service.
Sarah Sinclair, Senior Careers Advisor at City College, said: “After such a thorough inspection process, it is really good news that the information, advice and guidance offered at the College for every stage of an individual’s journey, from enquiry to completion, meets the standard required to be awarded the matrix accreditation.
“Our dedicated teams of professionals have clearly shown the level of support offered to potential and current students to achieve this.”
In the report, the independent assessor wrote: “The admissions process incorporates a review by the Careers team of all full-time courses and significant part-time courses to identify applicants that might benefit from some form of careers intervention to ensure individuals have sufficient information, advice and guidance to make an informed choice.”
Another strength reported by the assessor was the nature and scope of the partnership working that improves services for students and the levels of engagement with local employers, which ensures the College understands the local need and adjusts its curriculum accordingly.
The College has a dedicated team of staff who help students identify the right career for them and provide them with the necessary information on how to achieve this. The Careers team also assists City College students with the skills needed to find employment, such as writing CVs, and also helps students to identify possible part-time employment opportunities.
