Petroc students are, today (August 16, 2018), celebrating another year of outstanding A-level results, with a pass rate of over 99% for the seventh consecutive year, well above the national average.
Diane Dimond, Principal and CEO, said: “I am thrilled with our results and am extremely proud of each and every one of our learners. As well as going on to Oxbridge and other leading universities, I’m delighted that we have many learners who have secured exciting jobs and apprenticeships, both locally and further afield. It’s on days like today that you realise that through hard work and determination you really can reach your goals and make your dreams a reality.
“We have an exceptional A-level provision here at Petroc, and these results are testament to the passion, dedication and incredible subject expertise of our lecturers, who go above and beyond to inspire our learners to achieve their very best,” added Diane.
“These results really are phenomenal,” echoed Alison Knight, Department Manager of Arts and Science. “In facilitating subjects – those most valued by the country’s top universities – 54% of grades were A*-B. It was a similar story for our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) learners, where 54% of grades were also high at A*-B. I’m feeling incredibly proud today.”
Daisy Totterdell, who has secured a place to study Sports Medicine at Exeter University, came to collect her results with her friend Sophie Cox, who is going on to Surrey to study Psychology. Daisy achieved A*AA and said: “I’m so pleased with my results. I’ve had an amazing time at college and have met so many friends for life.”
Alison Bell was one of two Petroc students who has gained a place at Oxford. Alison is going to be studying Spanish, after achieving two A*s and an A. This year’s Spanish cohort produced outstanding results, with 67% of grades at A* or A.
“I had an amazing time at college and was able to take part in the Erasmus+ funded trip to Spain, which really helped develop my language skills,” said Alison.
Jack Elston is also off to Oxford to study Psychology, after getting an outstanding three A*s at A-level. Jack said: “I feel very blessed to have had such great teachers here at Petroc and so much support, especially during my university application.”
Rosie Garnett was delighted with her ABB results, which have secured her a place to study Russian and French in Bristol. “I’m really looking forward to starting my university course. I’ve always loved languages and find Russian culture, history and politics fascinating,” said Rosie.
Anna Wallis was among Petroc’s top achievers, gaining A*AA at A-level, and will be going to the University of Bath to study Pharmacology. “I’ve had a great time at college, with some amazing lecturers. In the future I’m hoping to do a PhD, so I can specialise in a particular area of research.”
It’s not just A-level learners celebrating today. Early indications show that Level 3 vocational results are exceptionally high this year, with 68% of current grades at Distinction* (D*) or Distinction (D). A whopping 80 learners achieved three straight D*s, which is an amazing result.
Last month, our university-level learners collected their results, and we are looking forward to welcoming over 100 graduates to our Higher Education ceremony in October.
Results are still coming in for many of our vocational programmes, and we will be celebrating these results later in the year at our annual awards ceremonies.
