Resilience: You can’t quack me I’m a rubber duck!

Buster Howes joined the military for four years and stayed for thirty-four. He was privileged to command on operations at every rank (including the entirety of the Royal Marines). He has studied human nature for decades, both as a Commando soldier in war and as the Chief Executive of Here Be Dragons, a commercial-philanthropic hybrid company sustainably developing Principe, a wild and very remote island and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the Equator. He has seen people at the very end of their tethers (including himself – he has been resuscitated three times) and has thought hard about how to respond to stress, upset and failure, how to live with uncertainty, how to figure out what really matters. He has significant experience of leading under pressure and of the challenges of mental illness. He will describe what he knows about resilience and how to thrive when life is challenging and threatens to be ‘nasty, brutish and short’.

Held at the University of Exeter’s Business Schooljoin us in Henderson Lecture Theatre at 18.30 on Tuesday 11 December 2018, followed by a mince pie and festive drink.
