Innovation, creativity and collaboration: build a startup in 54 hours!

Do you have an idea for a new product, service or experience that you’re looking to take to the next level? Do you want to learn how to start a business? Plymouth Startup Weekend is back with a twist!

Led by the University of Plymouth and part of the Techstars Startup Weekend movement, it is the place to meet like-minded individuals and be immersed in a weekend of creativity and collaboration ONLINE.

About Plymouth Startup Weekend Online Edition

This virtual edition of Techstars Startup Weekend Plymouth is focused on supporting and growing our entrepreneurial community in and around Plymouth. The 54-hour event has a new format, but the inspiration, energy and educational opportunities for entrepreneurs is as strong as ever – you’ll connect with amazing mentors, industry experts, founders, and partners all of whom have been there and got the t-shirt and are ready to help you get started.

This event is for anyone and everyone interested in entrepreneurship! Whether you have an idea to help support the recovery of Covid-19 that you want to learn how to turn into a viable business, or you are already a serial entrepreneur – it’s an opportunity for everyone to be inspired, to collaborate and to innovate. Now is the perfect time to think about launching a business; to engage with your community and build a strong following – and there’s no better place to do that than online.

Channelling Plymouth’s entrepreneurial spirit

Do you have an idea and don’t know how to implement it?

Do you want to get involved in entrepreneurship but don’t know how?

Are you one of those who believe that the recent crisis creates new opportunities?

Plymouth has recently been recognised as one of the top ten cities in the UK to launch a business, and it’s no wonder; we are incredibly lucky to be part of a city thriving with ingenuity and enterprise. In collaboration with partners and experts from a range of business backgrounds we’re taking the entrepreneurial spirit of Plymouth online – inviting creative people from all across Plymouth, and beyond, to join us for the first ever remote Plymouth Startup Weekend. We want to find those new and innovative ideas and help bring them to life.

What do you need to bring?

Firstly, lots of energy! This may be a virtual event, but as with an in- person Startup Weekend, you’ll be practicing pitching your own idea or listening to others. You’ll then get the opportunity to vote on what you feel is the most interesting concept, and form teams.

As they say, team work makes the dream work – so bring your collaborative cap. In teams, you’ll work together on a business idea: design a prototype that fits the need of your target audience; deliver a pitch; receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs and then…likely change your approach entirely!

What sort of ideas are we looking for?

Your idea can address any issue – social, environmental, financial, environmental, or something else entirely – but it must be something you have not worked on previously.

How do I register? Is there any cost?

Anyone can register by Thursday 12th November here, and it is completely free!

What next? Watch the video below to see what you can expect (but imagine it online!), and if you’re feeling inspired click on the ‘Register’ button now! Still have questions? Feel free to reach us at [email protected] or on our Facebook page.

The best ideas are born and realised through collaboration – there has never been a better time to join the Plymouth Startup community!

This activity is led by the University of Plymouth and is part of the iMayflower project. iMayflower is supported by The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport through the Cultural Development Fund which is administered by Arts Council England.
