We are delighted to confirm that Greg Dyke will be joining us on the Thursday 3rd October at Dartington Hall for our Annual Dinner.

Greg Dyke has held some truly notable roles; Director-General of the BBC, Chairman of the British Film Institute, and Chairman of the Football Association. He has also been Chancellor of the University of York, Chairman of HIT, a production company specialising in programmes for children, and is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society. He appears as a panellist on the Sky News programme ‘The Pledge’. Greg is delighted to attend the SWBC Annual Dinner as a Guest Speaker and looks forward to sharing various anecdotes from his past, working in the world of sport and media, leading teams within large organisations, focusing on greater diversity. Individual tickets for SWBC members are priced at £62.50 (£75 inclusive of VAT). Those member organisations wishing to book tables of 10 can do so at a discounted rate of £700. If you wish to be invoiced for group bookings, then please get in touch with us directly.

Agenda:

Pre-dinner drinks reception from 6.30pm. Guests will be offered Camel Valley ‘Cornwall’ Brut, Sea Arch (a non-alcoholic alternative to gin) and Luscombe tonic, and a variety of other Luscombe soft drinks.

The pre-dinner drinks reception is kindly sponsored by SWIG Finance-

A complimentary half bottle of wine per person (or soft drink alternative) will be served with the meal commencing at 7.30pm.

The formal dinner will end around 11.00pm, but networking drinks will continue in the White Hart bar.

Starters-

  • Roast pumpkin soup, Cajun pumpkin seeds, crème fraiche (V) (GF)
  • Goats cheese curd, beetroot textures, brioche toast (V) (GF)
  • Ham hock terrine, quince chutney, sour dough toast (GF)

Mains-

  • Sea bass lemon confit potatoes, kale, lemon butter sauce (GF)
  • Stuffed aubergine, ratatouille vegetable, lentil ragout (V) (GF)
  • Roast belly pork, braised red cabbage, roast potatoes, red wine jus (GF)

  • Apple and blueberries crumble, vanilla ice cream (GF)

Greg Dyke Biography:

Greg Dyke was educated at Hayes Grammar School and later at York University where he read Politics.  After an early career as a journalist, he started his broadcasting career in 1977 at London Weekend Television.

He became Editor-in-Chief of TV-am in 1983 and the following year Director of Programmes for TVS.  He returned to LWT in 1987 as Director of Programmes; and from 1991 to 1994 he was Group Chief Executive of LWT (Holdings) plc.

Greg Dyke joined Pearson Television as Chief Executive in 1994.  He guided the consortium which created Channel 5 and became its first Chairman.  During this early period of his career he was also Chairman of GMTV and at various times a director of Pearson plc, Channel Four Television, ITN and BSkyB.

He was a non-Executive Director of Manchester United Football Club 1997-1999 and was a Trustee of the Science Museum 1995-2005.

In January 2000 he became Director-General of the BBC and in his four years at the BBC he started four new digital television channels, five new digital radio channels, opened two new BBC regions, launched the BBC’s interactive television services and helped create Freeview, a new free to air digital platform.  He also made major commitments to expand the BBC’s education services and to improve the cultural diversity of the workforce.

After leaving the BBC in January 2004 Greg Dyke was made Chancellor of the University of York in December 2004 a post he held for 11 years.  He was Chairman of HiT, a large international television production company specialising in programmes for the under-fives from 2005 to 2012.

From 2006-2013, Greg Dyke was Chairman of Brentford Football Club and was Chairman of the British Film Institute from 2008-2016, from which he received the BFI Fellowship for his outstanding contribution to television and film.  Greg Dyke also served as Chairman of The Football Association from 2013-2016 and was formerly Chairman of the Ambassador Theatre Group.Greg is currently a BAFTA Vice President for Television and Chairman of the London Film School.

Greg runs several businesses of his own including golf clubs and hotels. He has a particular interest in the west country being the owner of both the Dartmouth Golf and Country Club and Fort Bovisand Ltd and is currently planning a large redevelopment on the site and the restoration of the fort.

South West Coast Path:

SWBC proudly supports the South West Coast Path Association, a registered charity working to protect and conserve the Coast Path to give us all the opportunity to improve our health in the great outdoors. Julian Gray, Director of the Association will be speaking on the evening, and there will be a fundraising draw.
