South Devon College recognises that it’s more important than ever for the local business community to reach out and stay connected. Rising to the challenge, the Apprenticeships team has been developing innovative ways to keep in touch and continue to provide fantastic opportunities for local employers.

Emily Tucker, Head of Apprenticeships and Employer Engagement at the College, has launched the ‘South Devon Business Community’ – a platform to provide Torbay businesses with support, advice and key updates during lockdown. A number of the businesses that work with the College will need to reach out for moral support or a helping hand and this series of webinars will be the perfect place for them to do just that.

The College has continued to grow the number of relationships with local businesses in recent weeks, working with around 1000 employers in the South West, and as a result bringing the number of apprentices studying with South Devon College to over 1700. This success is a direct result of Emily Tucker’s forward-thinking approach to business networking.

Emily will host a series of webinars using GoToWebinar featuring key panel members. Speaking about the interactive element of the webinar series, Emily Tucker said:

“The team at South Devon College is really pleased to be able to offer support to our partners in the local business community via this series of webinars. We will be encouraging employers and businesses to give us their feedback on each session so that we can continue to tailor the content to meet your evolving requirements as things develop over the coming days and weeks.”

The first webinar from Emily and the South Devon Business Community is ‘Apprenticeships – what you need to know if you employ an apprentice’. There’s an exciting panel of speakers lined up for the webinar: Laurence Frewin – Principal and CEO of South Devon College, Sharron Robbie – Director of Devon and Cornwall Training Provider Network, Keith Miller – Managing Director of Cavanna Homes, and Jonathan Holmes – Group Managing Director of Blenheims.

The webinar is taking place on Tuesday 21st April from 10:00am-11:00am and is open to register your attendance now.

The panel will cover a range of areas, including a discussion on the educational aspects of supporting your apprentices. Keith Miller and Jonathon Holmes will be sharing their experiences and approaches too as employers of apprentices, with Keith providing construction sector focused advice for other employers in the same industry.

Torbay Business Forum was also successfully supported by Emily with its first Virtual Breakfast Forum which supported over 100 attendees and is available to watch back at any time. The College will continue to support the Business Forum with their new launch Torbay Breakfast Bytes, with its debut session on Friday 17th April from 8:30am – 9:30am. You can register to attend the first Torbay Breakfast Bytes webinar here.
